Mr. Ryan Agard is in his ninth year as a band director and third year as the Director of Bands of Dawson High School. Mr. Agard teaches the distinguished Honors Band and Concert Band. He also coordinates, plans, and runs each rehearsal for the Eagle Marching Band while overseeing the music and woodwind captions. In their inaugural year of 2007, Mr. Agard led the Dawson High School Honors Band consisting of only 9th and 10th grade students to the prestigious Texas Music Educators Association’s Honor Band competition and were named 2nd runner up. In addition to this unique honor, the Honors Band has received numerous superior ratings at music festivals and contests although they have typically been the youngest band in attendance. Since the school’s first year of existence, Mr. Agard has led the Eagle Marching Band to perform in every marching contest’s finals event they attend. The marching band has also received consistent superior ratings since the school opened in 2007. In only 26 months of the school’s opening, he led the marching band to the 2009 Texas University Interscholastic League State Marching Band Contest where the band finished 11th place. Prior to Dawson High School, Mr. Agard was the Director of Bands at Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas for two years where he also led the Honors Band to perform at the Music for All National Concert Band Festival in early 2006. Prior to this, he was the assistant band director for five years.
Mr. Agard completed his Music Education degree at the University of Houston. He studied the saxophone with Dr. Karen Wylie and performed in the Moores School of Music Wind Ensemble under the esteemed direction of Mr. Eddie Green. In addition, Mr. Agard was a member of the Catalyst saxophone quartet, winning several 1st place national awards including the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
Mr. Agard’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Band Masters Association.
